BETTY DAVIS, GRETA GARBO EAT YOUR HEART OUT: STRONG FEMALE LEADS IN FILMS ARE BACK!

We have, time and time again, written about how good films that are female-oriented can be successful at the box office if Hollywood would realize this fact.

The Huffington Post has a wonderful analysis of how strong female led films successfully ruled Hollywood at one time.  This, in our humble opinion, has had no chance in this modern age of Hollywood especially after 'Star Wars' created the "fanboy merchandising" business that changed how movies would be made in the future.

Fanboy movies have had a stronghold on Hollywood for over the past 30 years.  Yes, there has been films such as 'Titanic' which is one of the few and far between films. Or a standard Rom-Com or two that tend to draw a female fanbase; but in all, the box office has not been geared to really address female interests in decades until a little known and surprising blockbuster named 'Twilight' came along.

This little independent film appears to have opened, or at least cracked, the flood gates for the next generation of strong female led films i.e. SWATH and the recently successful blockbuster 'Bridesmaids'.  Kristen Stewart's 'Bella' may have been the start of something big.  This may not bode well for Mr. George 'Star Trek' Takei, however, he will just have to live with it because it does look like the glory days of Betty Davis, Marlene Dietrich and Barbara Stanwyck may just be coming back again...and thank God for that.

If Hollywood would give one less film with car-crushing-robots-while-having-females-run-around-in-skimpy-tee-shirts-and-hot-pants-without-a-clue and bring us a modern version of a good film noir like 'Double Indemnity', that would work for us.
