DISNEY HALTS 3RD SNOW WHITE FILM

Universal/Relativity

With two Snow White films released this year, one with an underwhelming box office (Mirror, Mirror) and the other with really good buzz (SWATH), Disney is taking a step back and halting production of their version of Snow White, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR states that Disney is expressing concerns with the budget which placed the brakes on 'Order of the Seven' particularly coming off the box office failure of 'John Carter'.

In this version of Snow White, "Order of the Seven initially was set up by producer Andrew Gunn as a live-action kung fu take on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but later evolved into a fantasy-action adventure tale. The story centered on a young woman in 19th century Hong Kong who escapes her wicked stepmother and takes refuge with seven men belonging to an ancient order dedicated to fighting demons and dragons."

Although THR is reporting that most Hollywood studios are taking a second look at budgets, is this really the reason for the abrupt halt? Partially? Or...

....just maybe with the outstanding promotion by Universal Pictures before a scene was filmed (ComicCon) along with the unique story, this would make anyone take a second look.

Universal Studios threw down the gauntlet from day one when critics doubted that SWATH would have an impact since 'Mirror, Mirror' would land the first blow in theaters.  But the box office never came around for MM.

However, with the recent pre-screenings, tweeted hints by the media types and continuous buzz, it looks like this sword-wielding Snow White just may prevail. Time will tell in less than 9 days when SWATH opens on June 1st.
