UNIVERSAL'S 'BRIDESMAIDS' & KRISTEN STEWART ARE NOMINATED FOR MTV MOVIE AWARDS

Summit/Lionsgate

The MTV Movie Awards nominations were released late yesterday evening and Kristen Stewart's 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1' received two.

Kristen and Robert Pattinson were nominated for Best Kiss and 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' was nominated for Movie of the Year.

Universal's 'Bridesmaids' tied 'The Hunger Games' with 8 nominations each.  See the full list of nominations below.

These nominations sparked a bit of a controversy with Twilight fans who took to Twitter to express their outrage for the lack of nominations, making "#MTVWEHATEYOU" instantly trend world-wide.

More after the jump.

Do these fans have a reason to be outraged, slighted or a level of disrespect for their beloved film?  They may have an argument.  Let's take a look...

This year, the MTV Movie Awards did not place the voting in the hands of the fans to determine the nominees.  MTV chose to have a committee determine who will receive nominations this year.  What the qualification breakdown was for each category is unknown.

The surprise nominee would be '21 Jump Street' which received 6 nominations.  It is not clear how this particular movie received so many nominations making only approximately $174 million world-wide according to Box Office Mojo.  Not receiving a nomination for Movie of the Year but received a Best Cast nomination have anything to do with a cameo by Johnny Depp?

Best Female Performance:

Should Kristen receive a nomination for this category? Yes.  Her transformation on-screen as the pregnant emaciated Bella going through a gut-wrenching child birth could have taken any one of the nominees to task.  Not one of the nominees in this category had to act and transform and go through the extreme changes on screen like Kristen had.

So, the fans could have a legitimate argument here.

Best Cast:

'Breaking Dawn Part 1' received a Best Movie nomination but not for the cast?  Isn't that an oxymoron or (whispers) a way to get Johnny Depp?

The fans could have a legitimate argument here.

Breakthrough Performance:

If Liam Hemsworth, who barely had on-screen time  in 'Hunger Games' can get nominated for hugging Katniss good-bye, then so can Booboo Stewart.  Stewart was the definition of  "loyal friend" in 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' and had more of an impact in his role as 'Seth' both in and out of wolf form.

The fans may have a legitimate argument here.

Best On-screen Transformation:

This is the 2nd easiest of arguments to make since Best Cast.  There is absolutely no one nominated in this category transformed more both physically and mentally on-screen in 2012 than Kristen Stewart.  Sorry but putting a blonde wig on and whispering or putting a thousand tattoos and nose rings will ever convince anyone those transformations were anything near the dramatic change Bella went through.

...and this is not her worst look...

The fans definitely have an argument here.

Best Fight:

The wolves vs. the Cullen's was a pretty intense one.

The fans could have an argument but this category can be a throw away.  Don't want to be greedy.

Best Gut-Wrenching Performance:

The key word here is "gut".  Edward biting through Bella's gut and Bella getting her gut ripped open to get the baby out is pretty gut-wrenching both literally and figuratively.

Men around the world were actually fainting and having seizures regarding this scene.  There were warning signs placed in movie theaters warning of this gut-wrenching scene.  Yes, 'The Help' may have had that pie, but Edward ate through a little bit more than anything that could go into Minnie's pie.

Sorry, but there is no excuse for this omission.  Fans definitely win this argument.

Well, in all, it appears that the fans of Twilight may have a pretty good reason for being a bit upset.  Hey, you have to at least make it worth Johnny Depp's while to make the trip from his home in Europe for the show.

The MTV Movie Awards will be held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California on Sunday, June 3rd at 9pm EST.

Well, having a movie entered into competition at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and having a major film being released (SWATH) around the same time, gives fans something to look forward to even though the MTV Movie Awards may not be that special for them this year.

Life goes on.
