SWATH LEADS UNIVERSAL TO ITS BEST BOX OFFICE YEAR EVER AS STEWART CONFIRMS THE SWATH SEQUEL HAS THE GREENLIGHT

Universal

Although we had been hearing whispers for some time, receiving winks and nods from sources and plenty of tweets trying to get us to state the status, it would have been irresponsible to state anything was for sure without anyone going on record or official word from Universal regarding the SWATH sequel. From all accounts, Universal is keeping things hushed for the time being unless it is a cruel joke.

However, it appears that Kristen Stewart has let the cat out of the bag (not a slip of a tongue) herself during an interview for the release of her next movie On the Road even though she hinted at it once before.

Here are her statements as they were reported by Indiewire sans an official announcement from Universal as it appears that SWATH 2 is a go.

Here are the interview questions as reported by Indiewire. WARNING: Language:

OK, but to play devil’s advocate: where are you going to go with your character in a “Snow White” sequel?

Oh, it’s gonna be fuckin’ amazing. No, I’m so excited about it, it’s crazy.

Can you give me a hint of where it goes?

I’m not allowed. The other day I said that there was a strong possibility that we’re going to make a sequel, and that’s very true, but everyone was like, “Whoa, stop talking about it.” So no, I’m totally not allowed to talk about it.

But it’s fair to say that there are ideas that have been discussed that totally justify it for you.

Oh my God. Fuck, yeah. Absolutely. And we’ve got a really amazing… [smiles] So, yeah. It’s all good. [laughs]

Stewart is correct stating that lips are sealed about it.

It has been known for some time that Stewart and Chris Hemsworth were signed on for future films if Universal chose to go forth with them.  SWATH was one of the films released this year by Universal that led Universal to its best worldwide box office in its 100 year history; and it did extremely well against its opponent Mirror, Mirror. Insofar as fans were concerned, going ahead with the sequel with Stewart and Hemsworth was a no brainer.

In a press release celebrating its box office success, Universal stated the following, in part:

"Universal’s success has not been buoyed by a single traditional franchise film but, rather, a portfolio of diverse films that saw warm reception at the box office. Universal was the only studio in 2012 to have five non-franchise films gross over $200 million at the worldwide box office. The slate featured seven films that grossed over $200 million worldwide – more than any other studio (Safe House $209.1m, American Reunion $235.5m, The Bourne Legacy $276.3m, Battleship $307.8m, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax $349.7m, Snow White and the Huntsman $400.8m, Ted $502.5m).

Universal had six films claim the number one spot [SWATH was one] at the domestic box office in 2012. The studio also has one of the highest per film average grosses at $80.7 million."

There are box office accolades to go all around for SWATH because it helped Stewart make Forbes 'Top Grossing Actors of 2012' coming in at #2.
