UNIVERSAL PUTS A WRENCH IN DIGITAL SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES: EXTENDS DEAL WITH HBO

Some things may change after 100 years (or more) and some things stay the same.

Universal Pictures renewed its deal with HBO to continue to have exclusive access to its film library until 2022, according to the New York Times. This will keep pay television in the game of paid subscription services and throw a monkey wrench into digital subscription services such as Netfix and Amazon from gaining another large studio library.

Disney was the first large studio to send shock waves  breaking standard practices by making a deal with the digital subscription service Netflix to have their films released exclusively to their service blocking out the pay television services like HBO and Showtime. It is the largest studio deal for this type of service.

Any Disney/Pixar releases will be streamed through Netflix starting 2016.  20th Century Fox, Summit Entertainment, Warner Bros. along with Universal all have deals with HBO until 2022.

So continue to look out for SWATH on a paid television service near you.
