50 SHADES OF DRAMA: UNIVERSAL LOSES ITS CHRISTIAN GREY - HUNNAM OUT

No petition, girlfriend or lingerie left on his door step took him out.  However, being the head of a motorcycle gang ruled over becoming a billionaire with unique sexual tastes.

Although there were rumors floating earlier on the web that Charlie Hunnam dropped out of Universal Pictures and Focus Features Fifty Shades of Grey, now it is official.

More after the break.

Universal released a statement indicating that due to a scheduling conflict, Hunnam could no longer be in the film.

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Hunnam stars in FX's successful television show Sons of Anarchy as the leader of a motorcycle gang's criminal enterprise. SOA is currently filming its final season.

Filming begins for FSOG on November 5th in Vancouver, Canada.

Hunnam was clearly psyched to be Grey as he expressed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.  And believe it or not, he had even more fans worldwide enthusiastic about him in the role regardless of any petition.

Best-selling author E.L. James posted two tweets on Saturday forewarning fans that something big was about to happen.

"Okay girls and boys - hold on to your hats - it's about to get serious..." Then wrote, "I wish Charlie all the best. x."

Both James and Oscar-nominated producer Dana Brunetti animatedly defended the choice of Hunnam as Grey when the initial announcement was made for the lead role.

Brunetti, in particular, voiced his strong opinion on Twitter stating, "There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks.  Talent, availability, the desire to do it, chemistry with  other actor etc...so if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on the list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."

With chemistry being such a huge key for this role, where does this leave Dakota Johnson?  Most likely, still as the protagonist Anastasia Steele.

Since FSOG is set to be released August 1, 2014, could this delay its release or do the producers have another Grey hidden in up their Charlie Tango?

Whomever it is, Brunetti could not care less about who the fans want.  Therefore, online petitions are just a waste of time.

One thing is for sure, regardless of any protests, Hunnam's profile has been lifted as his IMDb ranking went as high as #1 and is currently holding at #4.  He will be one to look at in the future.

Stay tuned.
