DISTRIBUTION DEALS BEING MADE POST-FESTIVAL: LIONSGATE GRABS US RIGHTS TO KRISTEN STEWART'S 'AMERICAN ULTRA' IN HUGE $7 MIL DEAL

It appears that the big deals are not being closed during the film festivals but right after.

Deadline reports that Lionsgate close one of the biggest deals by grabbing the U.S. distribution rights for Kristen Stewart's American Ultra post-festival.

American Ultra was introduced as one of two script staged films of Stewart's at the Berlinale 2014 (Berlin Film Festival).  The other was Equals which co-stars Nicholas Hoult.

Deadline reports that this is appearing to be a pattern for films receiving the deal after the festivals end.

More after the break

Stewart's Camp X-Ray received the same treatment where the distribution deal was closed after the festival ended.

Deadline writes, "While many felt that the results of the Berlin market were underwhelming, sometimes those festivals need to be evaluated by results that are not immediately evident. It is becoming more common for dialogue on big films like this one to begin at Berlin. Some of the deals fall in place shortly after, or during the Cannes Film Festival in May."

American Ultra brings Stewart back together with her Adventureland co-star Jesse Eisenberg.  Filming will take place in New Orleans in a few weeks.

Stewart is currently filming Still Alice in New York City.
