Kristen Stewart (l) & Sam Claflin (r) |
Variety reported on Monday that Sam Claflin will join his former "Snow White and the Huntsman" co-star Kristen Stewart in the reboot of "Charlies Angels".
Variety announced in July Stewart would be starring in the reboot with fellow angels Naomi Scott ("Aladdin") and British actress Ella Balinska ("Midsomer Murders"). The identities of who would play each angel has not been revealed.
More after the break
Claflin will also be rejoining his "The Hunger Games" co-star Elizabeth Banks who co-wrote, co-produced and will be directing the reboot. Banks will star as one of three Bosley characters, according to Variety. "Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou will play the other two Bosleys." Banks will be the first female Bosley.
This version will be a modern version with more realistic fight sequences, according to Stewart about the remake of the 2000 action-comedy based on the 1970's television show.
Variety describes the film further: "The film will focus on the next generation of Angels working for the mysterious Charlie. The Townsend Agency has grown considerably and gone global, providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients."
Stewart spoke about the film with Variety during her press junket interview for her movie "Lizzie" alongside Chloe Sevigny:
[Stewart] “It’s kind of like a ‘woke’ version.”
Sevigny chimed in, adding that today’s audience does not take “frivolity” lightly.
Stewart agreed, explaining how “there’s a kitsch nature to the last ones that was super fun. But nowadays, if you see a woman in combat, everything should be completely and utterly within their ability.”
“Charlie’s” will also feature a “whole network of angels,” according to Stewart. “It’s not just three. Women across the entire globe are connected and helping each other,” she said.
Noting how the new Angels “work together really, really beautifully,” no word has come up yet if former Angels Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, or Lucy Liu will be making any cameos.
“I don’t know. I’ll ask them though. I’ll hit them up. I’ll be like, ‘Hey guys, you know,'” Stewart said.
It will be nice for fans to see Stewart and Claflin back on the big screen together. "Charlie's Angels" is set to be released September 27, 2019.
