BOX OFFICE UPDATE: SWATH STILL GOING STRONG IN ITALY

Universal

For the third week in a row, SWATH is holding strong as a 2D film leading at the Italian box office ahead of the rebooted Spiderman bringing in $8,304,570 million (US).

SWATH began its worldwide release on June 1st over eight weeks ago in the midst of a tough summer  blockbuster season where IMAX and 3D movies rule.

SWATH has hauled in a total worldwide box office in the amount of $381,737,401 million as of July 22nd (all countries not included) .

A SWATH a sequel is currently the works with David Koepp (Spiderman, Mission Impossible) being commissioned to write the script.  Although there has been speculation that this film will feature the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) more so than Snow White (Kristen Stewart), there has been no official word from Universal that this will be the direction the film will take.  But would it be a good one?

The chemistry between the two characters is what made the first film special particularly at the end of the film.  The dynamics of where the two will lead are what fans are anticipating.  To have the film mainly be about the Huntsman could make it look like 'Thor' in medieval times.  Will the fans buy it?

The direction of the relationships between Snow White, the Huntsman and the Prince (Sam Claflin) is what will make the sequel interesting.  If any character was to be featured more, it should be the dwarves.  But time will tell which way the script will go.

SWATH is still in theaters, however the DVD can be pre-ordered here.

SPIELBERG WANTS
CHRIS HEMWORTH FOR COVETED ROLE IN 'ROBOPOCALYPSE'

Google Images

How does it feel to be wanted?  Well, the SWATH cast appears to be on a roll with being considered for some of the hottest roles in Hollywood.

As we wait for a Lionsgate head honcho to give the official announcement about Sam, Deadline is reporting that Chris Hemsworth has been in secret meetings with one of most famous and legendary directors in film history who, by the way, WANTS HIM FOR THE ROLE!

Chris is being wooed for the lead role in Steven Spielberg's 'Robopocalypse' which will be in theaters on April 25, 2014, according to Deadline.

'Robopocalypse' is described to be "based on the Daniel H. Wilson epic novel about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising,."

Chris is considered one of Hollywood's top "bankable action stars" but there is no offer on the table yet, according to Deadline. Deadline reports further that the film is so big that it is being financed by two studios, Disney and Fox.  This is HUGE in more way than one.

So stay tuned to see if an offer is made and accepted.  Our Huntsman being the next Schwarzenegger or Stallone will be amazing to see.

THE MAKING OF SWATH: FROM PRE-VISUALIZATION TO DWARF EFFECTS    ~ SEE HOW IT WAS DONE ~

Dwarf effect

FlickeringMyth.com interviews the Snow White and the Huntsman effects team who talk about how all of the effects came about and working with Director Rupert Sanders.  The Effects Team is:  Effects Supervisors Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Phil Brennan, Todd Shifflett, Bryan Hirota, Nicolas Hernandez, Edson Williams, Steve Moncur, Angela Barson, Lindsay MacGowan, Nvizage owner / founder Martin Chamney.

Visual Effects Supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan talks about what direction the effects were to take in the film.

"We wanted to keep the fairy tale aspect somewhat grounded,’ states Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. “The first thing was not trying to explain everything and anything. The second thing was to avoid any type of light, glowy or over-the-top effectsy FX as much as possible..."

Due to the schedule constraints along with the budget, the effects work was divided among several vendors:

"...we had to take the divide and conquer approach based on the design of the film,” states Cedric Nicolas-Troyan when explaining how he and his colleague select the various VFX vendors and achieved a unified look throughout the picture. “Animals, creatures and all ‘life’ by design went to Rhythm & Hues. The dark, cold and ‘death’ by design went to Double Negative. The battle and soldiers went to Pixomondo. The Mirror Man went to The Mill. We chose the vendors based on what we believed were their forte."

"Bringing the Enchanted Forest to big screen was the responsibility of the main VFX vendor for the fantasy adventure."

The effects team talk about the pre-visualization as well as CGI effects.

Rupert had input on all aspects of the effects even the unique title treatment at the beginning and end of the movie.

"...like Rupert has a great eye for detail,” states The Mill Creative Director Henry Hobson. “Even though he was deep in thousands of other visual effects shots he would always pop in to chat about the titles, bringing some great ideas and thoughts into the process."
