RUMORED: SNOW WHITE DROPPED FOR HUNTSMAN SPINOFF~ HOLLYWOOD SHUTS OUT FEMALE LED BLOCKBUSTER

UPDATE (July 31, 2014): Universal has confirmed that it will not pursue SWATH 2 but proceed with a pre-quel named 'The Huntsman' starring Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.

Over a year ago, it was rumored that Universal was poised to make a spinoff to Snow White and The Huntsman excluding Kristen Stewart's Snow White in favor of solely featuring Chris Hemsworth's huntsman. According to reports, it appears that it is coming to fruition.

Deadline is reporting that Frank Darabont, creator of The Walking Dead, is in talks to direct what would be a spinoff of a "Huntsman only" film.  

The Wrap writes that Hemsworth is a "bigger star" since the release of 'The Avengers' films which is the reason for the change.

Maybe someone missed what happened at the Cannes Films Festival this year. Or maybe the fact that Stewart's film 'American Ultra' was only in script stage when Lionsgate purchased its rights after its presentation at the Berlin Film Festival for a "massive" $7 million. Bigger star?

The Wrap is further reporting that it is possible that Stewart "could" make "cameo appearances."  This could be seen as a ploy to give her fans a wink and a nod in order to use them to pad the box office.  But will they bite? (vampire pun)

Charlize Theron is set to "reprise her role as the evil queen, who was left trapped in her own mirror at the end of the first film," according to The Wrap. 

If this is true, then Hollywood would have dumped a strong female lead role for another male dominated action flick (which are a dime a dozen) particularly after the success of the fantasy film 'Maleficent' (BOM: $527,484,928 worldwide). 

Sure, it'll have another female in it, however she will not be the featured lead. Popping in the evil queen through a mirror just won't cut it.

CRITICS AGREE: STEWART'S PERFORMANCE IN 'SILS' WAS TIED FOR THE STRONGEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE AT CANNES

Without a doubt, critics have consistently agreed that Kristen Stewart has given one of the best performances of her career in Oliver Assayas' 'Cloude of Sils Maria'. 

Indiewire canvassed votes from nearly 40 critics resulting in a slam dunk for Supporting Actress and a tie-for the best overall performance at Cannes. 

Since the screenings, there has not been a lack of praise for her performance. It has been a consistent drum beat from around the world.  Had their been a Best Supporting Actress at Cannes, Stewart should have won.

"Kristen Stewart's work in Olivier Assayas' "Clouds of Sils Maria" garnered a first-place finish in the Supporting Performance list. Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" also received spread-out acclaim, with its central acting triumvirate each appearing on their fair share of lists. Mark Ruffalo finished just behind Stewart, while Channing Tatum and Steve Carell each received a high combined total between mentions for Lead and Supporting."

Considering how Hollywood operates, it is a bit early to be naming potential nominees for awards season; however, this isn't bad buzz for Stewart. 

Hopefully, fans will have something to look forward to this upcoming season.  Only time will tell.

KRISTEN STEWART FIGHTS OFF BLOCKBUSTER STIGMA AND ROCKS CANNES: RECEIVED RAVE REVIEWS FOR 'CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA' PERFORMANCE

    

Coming off of the film set of 'American Ultra' missing the photocall and press conference, Kristen Stewart flew in a private plane to France just in time to take Cannes by storm.  

Stewart walked the red carpet Friday evening at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for the premier for the Oliver Assayas film Clouds of Sils Maria. Stewart delighted the crowd and photogs wearing a white Chanel jumpsuit with the fiery red hair she is sporting for American Ultra. 

Stewart walked the carpet with the director including cast members Juliette Binoche and Chloe Grace Moretz.

CoSM is one of the entries in the Official Palme d'Or Competition. Also, after screenings of the film, Stewart has been mentioned as a possible Best Actress nominee.

KRISTEN STEWART'S 'AMERICAN ULTRA' & 'EQUALS' TO BE INTRODUCED AT THE BERLINALE 2014 (BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL)

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg to star in 'American Ultra'

Kristen Stewart will have two "script stage" films launched during the Berlinale 2014 a.k.a. the Berlin Film Festival. 

American Ultra Stewart stars with Jesse Eisenberg and Equals which Stewart is paired with Nicholas Hoult are the films that are to be introduced, according to Deadline. 

Deadline reports that the films are being teased which could lead to sales at the Cannes Film Festival.

In other news, the Los Angeles Times reports that Harris's film Last Days On Mars "made a strong impression" when it was recently screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.  The LA Times writes:

"Well-written by Clive Dawson in a plot initially reminiscent of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” a crew member discovers a form of bacterial life on the planet and makes the mistake of thinking of taking it back to Earth. The bacterium, however, turns out to have the nasty habit of turning crew members into grotesque and violent zombies (are there any other kind?)." 

"The story may be familiar, but the way Robinson has directed it is undeniably gripping. “Mars” is a nifty genre exercise, a lean, muscular and fast-moving B picture that shows that science-fiction smartly done on a budget can hold its own with anything." 


Last Days On Mars will be released in the UK on September 19th.

NEW INTERNATIONAL 'OTR' POSTER

A new international On the Road poster was released featuring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart ahead of the cast appearance at the Toronto Film Festival on September 6th.

OTR which also stars Viggo Mortenson, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Sturrige and Amy Adams premiered in at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. OTR is set to open in the U.S. on December 21st and earlier in the UK on October 12th.

There are some photos we will refrain from posting but when Kristen Stewart's mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, tweeted this lovely photo of her and her daughter...well, we couldn't resist.


Mann-Stewart stated in her tweet that the photo was taken at the 'On the Road' after party which was held during the Cannes Film Festival.  She even tweeted about her attire at the event, "Wore a dress last night for the first time I can remember, a little black number, but ditched the designer heels for black Converse Chucks."


Now that does sound familiar. But beauty is definitely in the genes.  Thank you for sharing Mother Stewart.

JOHNNY HARRIS' "THE FADES" UPSETS AT BAFTAS

It has been an eventful week for SWATH fans and a week of pride beginning with Kristen Stewart's appearance at the Cannes Film Festival now Johnny Harris representing at the television BAFTA awards. 

After an unceremonious cancellation followed by fan outrage, the Sci-fi thriller 'The Fades' starring SWATH's Johnny Harris, won by an upset taking the Drama Series award at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards ceremony on Sunday.

Harris was unable to attend due to filming in Jordan.  SWATH's Sam Claflin did attend with his girlfriend Laura Haddock.  

Harris expressed his elation via Twitter for both 'The Fades' win and his mini-series 'This is England '88" which won the Mini Series award as well.  Harris wrote:

"Overwhelmed by #BAFTA results tonight.Thank you for all your beautiful messages! God bless ShaneMeadows @jackthorne #TIE88 and#TheFades XX."

KRISTEN STEWART LOOKS 

"RED HOT" AS SHE ATTENDS THE 'COMOPOLIS' PREMIERE IN CANNES

"Lips as red as blood..."

Escorted by her On the Road co-star Tom Sturridge, today Kristen Stewart attended the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Cosmopolis which stars her 'Twilight' co-star and boyfriend Robert Pattinson, sporting the trade-mark "Snow White red lips" in a plunging red Reem Acra pre-Fall 2012 gown (see below). 

Taking a leave of absence from promoting Snow White and the Huntsman in order to attend the festival for her own film premiere this past Wednesday of On the Road, Stewart hung around to attend today's premiere which also boasted Star Wars and Red Tails Producer/Director George Lucas and Academy award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Red Tails and Jerry McGuire). 

Both films are competing for the Palme d'Or.  So far, there has been good buzz for Stewart's individual performance as 'Marylou'; however Cosmopolis has been receiving good buzz for the film itself.
