Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Nick Frost walked the black carpet Monday evening at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles for the premiere of The Huntsman: Winter's War.  

Fans were treated to a remarkable display of costumes from the film created by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE IS ONE OF ROLLING STONE'S '50 GREATEST LIVE ACTS' TODAY

Showstopper: The big beat Brit-soul choral chant of "Shake It Out. ~ Rolling Stone

Florence and the Machine is #38 on Rolling Stone's list of the 50 Greatest Live Acts who are the most "crowd-pleasing, club-wrecking, festival-killing road rulers" of today.

Rolling Stone writes, "At this point, Flo in concert is the pop equivalent of an appearance by Princess Kate. Her pipes are regal, and her sense of ceremony is impressive."

Florence and the Machine is in excellent company on the list which includes names such as Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, White Stripes, U2 and more.

'SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTMAN' IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN OSCAR HOWEVER...

Universal

Yes, we are happy but we are realists.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released their list of 282 eligible feature films which can contend to receive an Oscar nomination for their 85th annual awards ceremony in February.

Snow White and the Huntsman made the list. 

Universal does have an opportunity to see one of its films as a Best Picture nominee but unfortunately, although we always hope for the best for our beloved SWATH, sometimes you just have to face reality and getting a Best Picture nod is just not in its cards.  However, we will always keep hope alive.  

SWATH has made a few short lists of eligible Oscar nominations for Hair and Makeup  as well as for Original Soundtrack. 

We have an expectation to see more technical nominations in the areas of costuming, special effects and possibly cinematography.  SWATH definitely deserves recognition in these areas.  Let's hope for the best.

SWATH MAKES OSCAR SHORT LIST FOR
HAIR AND MAKE-UP

The Hollywood Reporter listed the names of the 7 films released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 85th Academy Awards ceremony that are still in contention for an Oscar nomination.  Universal Studios is lucky to have two of their films listed and SWATH is one.

The seven films that made the list are: Universal's Les Misérables,  Hitchcock, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Lincoln, Looper and Men in Black 3.   

The hair and makeup departments are not the only ones who have made the short list of potential Oscar nominees, earlier this week it was announced that the songs in SWATH also made a short list.  

Both 'Breath of Life' and 'Gone' made the cut of 75 Original songs that are contending for nominations. Read more here.  Hopefully we should hear some news about costume designs which SWATH's Colleen Atwood should definitely contend. 'BREATH OF LIFE' & 'GONE' MAKE THE OSCAR LIST 
OF ELIGIBLE SONGS

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released their list of 75 songs eligible for the Original Song category for the 85th Academy Awards®.  SWATH has two potential songs that can be considered for an Oscar nod.

Florence and the Machine's 'Breath of Life' and 'Gone' by Jonanna Gika. Johnny Harris gets a "featured" nod on 'Gone' since he performed it in the film as well at least in our opinion.

"To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits."

'Breath of Life' was featured in the end credits and 'Gone' was used in the body of the film.

The Oscars will premiere live from LA on Sunday, February 24, 2013 on ABC (US).  The nominations will be announced live Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. EST/5:30 a.m. PST.

SWATH DWARF JOHNNY HARRIS TALKS SWATH, SINGING, HOSKINS, BECOMING POPULAR WITH TEEN COUSINS DUE TO STEWART & MORE

In a recent interview in conjunction with the SWATH Blu-ray DVD release in the UK, SWATH dwarf Johnny 'Quert' Harris spoke with Indie London about SWATH and other topics.

Harris talks about the potential for a sequel, tells a charming story about his increased popularity with his teenage cousins because of him being in the film with Kristen Stewart, singing on the soundtrack as well as his next projects.   

This is a really good and insightful interview from his perspective.  Read some excerpts from his interview below.

Harris talks about being Quert and his popularity with family members because of Stewart.

"He’s a bad dude, yeah [laughs]. I guess that’s why playing Quert in Snow White was such a refreshing change for me. When [director] Rupert [Sanders] said I would be playing the softie of the bunch I kind of laughed. He did also say they were a tough little bunch. But I also got to sing as well. If you’d told me I’d be singing in a Universal pictures movies a couple of years ago I’d have laughed because I’m not a singer. But by sheer luck, none of the other guys were singers either! We all gave it a go and Rupert went through the list before eventually, against will, pushing me forward. He said they would be able to dub it if it was really bad. But it’s me and now I’m officially on an album." 

"It comes in handy with regards to scoring points with my little cousins. Prior to being in Snow White I never got so much as a second glance from them but as soon as I was in a film with Kristen Stewart, all of a sudden I was getting calls. I got married last week and all my cousins are around the 12-13 mark and you could see how I’ve changed in their eyes. Now, all of a sudden they’re asking me about my work and asking if I can get Kristen’s autograph!" 


Harris does not know the status of the next film but will be ready to go if called.

"...you hear all sorts of rumours and there’s a good chance. But I don’t know is the honest answer. It’s really healthy for an actor just to keep things in the moment. And I’m really lucky to be busy. I’m writing at the moment too. So, if it [the sequel] was to happen I’ll hear about it when I’m meant to. The good thing is that you get plenty of notice with films like that, so there’s no need to worry. I think only the producers know at this stage what’s happening."


Harris talks more about his experience with SWATH and working with the legendary Bob Hoskins (Muir) who has recently retired due to the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease as well as with Kristen Stewart (Snow White).  

About SWATH:

"It’s been lovely to do because the response to it has been beautiful. A big movie like this can sometimes forgo storytelling in favour of effects. But people seem to have really gone for it. All the actors on it have come through realism in their performances… people like Ray Winstone and Bob Hoskins. We all wanted to make it as honest and real and engaging as we could, so it’s been gratifying to see that people have responded to that in what they’ve been saying about the film."

Working with Stewart:

"Yeah, the scene in particular was the funeral scene when I had to sing. And it only got confirmed on the morning that I’d be singing on my own because of the technicality of getting us all to do it. In moments like that, when the camera is focused on you, you tend to find other actors disappear but they remained standing in. It kind of tells you a lot about the feeling in general on the set. So, when I looked around Kristen was there, and Chris [Hemsworth], and Ray and Bob were stood either side of me. I’ll never forget that moment. It was an emotional moment in the film, we were all crying a bit, and when I looked up Kristen was also crying and the camera was not even on her. So, I was tremendously grateful to her for that."

Harris gives a poignant take on Hoskins last day on set:


"Not many people know this and I think I’m right in saying this – I’m not sure if Bob had to do re-shoots – but the last scene we shot together was the coronation scene in the grand hall. You’re talking about a scene with 500 to 600, so a huge crowd in this massive hall, which had this lovely echoey effect, and Bob’s final scene involved him taking a bow in front of this huge cheering crowd. It was really poignant because you don’t usually get that in film. As a stage actor, you get applause, but as a film actor they call ‘cut’ and you trudge off home to look at the next day’s scene. We get our premieres, I suppose, so it’s swings and roundabouts. But it was so nice and fitting that his final scene on film is Bob taking a bow."

'BREATH OF LIFE' NOMINATED!

 VOTE FOR THE SWATH SOUNDTRACK FOR A 

'WORLD SOUNDTRACK AWARD'

The powerful song by Florence and the Machine, 'Breath of Life', has been nominated for Best Original Song written directly for a Film (see who else is competing against SWATH below) at the 12th World Soundtrack Awards. 

Fans also have the opportunity to vote for the Snow White and the Huntsman Soundtrack for the Public Choice Award.  Fans can go here to cast your vote for the SWATH soundtrack.  Voting ends September 15th.

SWATH soundtrack composer James Newton Howard will also be honored in concert at the awards. "Howard is one of the most versatile and respected film music composers currently working in film. A program of his impressive music will be performed by the renowned Brussels Philharmonic and be accompanied by select film clips. The concert will be conducted by both Howard and Dirk Brossé." 

Howard not only scored SWATH but Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games, Pretty Woman, King Kong, Salt, The Fugitive and more.  

The World Soundtrack Academy was founded in 2001 to celebrate the role of music in film and honor film composers. 

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 20th in Belgium at 8pm CEST/ 2pm EDT.

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE PREMIERE'S 'BREATH OF LIFE' DURING LOLLAPALOOZA

For the first time in public, Florence & the Machine played SWATH's theme song 'Breath of Life' at the Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois this weekend.  MTV was there to here the premiere of the song. 

"...they [Florence & the Machine] used their Lolla slot as an excuse to premiere "Breath of Life," their single off the Snow White and the Huntsmen soundtrack (it had "never, ever been played live before," according to Flo)."

"And, of course, the song was epic, ringing and coursing through the throngs who helped make this a truly memorable night for a roady-weary band and their hallucinatory frontwoman. Historical, even. What a way to cap a weekend."

In Snow White and the Huntsman, a breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale begins.

UPDATE:

Although Florence and the Machine's Breath of Life was the first track released, there are two songs featured on the soundtrack.

The second song is by Io Echos' Ioanna Gika entitled Gone. We are looking forward to hearing this track as well.

Also the soundtrack list has been updated. There are only 19 tracks instead of 20.

SWATH Producer Palak Patel tweeted that 'Breath of Life' by Florence and the Machine is now available on iTunes.  After heading to iTunes to purchase it, it does indicate the release date is April 30th.  However, you can purchase the MP3 now for $1.29.
