JOHNNY HARRIS' "THE FADES" UPSETS AT BAFTAS

It has been an eventful week for SWATH fans and a week of pride beginning with Kristen Stewart's appearance at the Cannes Film Festival now Johnny Harris representing at the television BAFTA awards. 

After an unceremonious cancellation followed by fan outrage, the Sci-fi thriller 'The Fades' starring SWATH's Johnny Harris, won by an upset taking the Drama Series award at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards ceremony on Sunday.

Harris was unable to attend due to filming in Jordan.  SWATH's Sam Claflin did attend with his girlfriend Laura Haddock.  

Harris expressed his elation via Twitter for both 'The Fades' win and his mini-series 'This is England '88" which won the Mini Series award as well.  Harris wrote:

"Overwhelmed by #BAFTA results tonight.Thank you for all your beautiful messages! God bless ShaneMeadows @jackthorne #TIE88 and#TheFades XX."

JOHNNY HARRIS' 'THE FADES' & 'THIS IS ENGLAND 88' RECEIVE BAFTA TV NODS

Congratulations to SWATH's Johnny Harris who starred in two UK television programs, 'The Fades' and 'This is England '88', both of which received BAFTA Arqiva British Academy Television Awards nominations announced yesterday. 

Although fans protested the non-renewal of the UK's BBC 'The Fades', it continues to receive accolades being  was nominated for Drama Series.

Harris tweeted, "#BAFTA Congrats to @jackthorne who co wrote #TIE88 and single handedly wrote #TheFades! A lovely man and the most exciting writer around x."

'This is Engand '88' is nominated for Leading Actor, Leading Actress and Mini Series. Read the rest of the nominations here at BAFTA.

The ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 27th.

WINSTONE'S 'GREAT EXPECTATIONS' UP FOR BAFTA AWARDS

BBC One's Great Expectations starring SWATH's Ray Winstone and Izzy Meikle-Small, nabbed 7 British Academy Television Craft Award nominations.

"...the three-part drama [Great Expectations] is up for best original music, best make-up and hair design and best visual effects. It has also picked up nominations in the sound, photography and lighting, production design and photography and lighting categories."

Writer Jack Thorne was nominated for BBC'sThe Fades which starred SWATH's Johnny Harris.

EDITORIAL: FANS OUTRAGED ABOUT BBC'S CANCELLATION OF

'THE FADES'

Upsetting is not the word with this nonsense. I refused to do a post about this because I was so upset. I've been biting my tongue but I have to get this off my chest.

The Metro is reporting that fans of BBC3's 'The Fades' starring SWATH's Johnny Harris are "outraged" about them not "recommissioning the sci-fi series."  Harris confirmed through SFX the other day while at the dwarfs' press junket, that the program had been cancelled.

Metro writes:

Fans flocked to Twitter to criticise the decision, which reportedly came about after bosses were forced to choose between The Fades and another series of Being Human.

Twitter user Rich Cain wrote on the social media site after hearing the news: 'Honestly! The BBC have axed 'The Fades'. What are you playing at BBC!?'


Elsewhere, Liam Murphy called it 'The dumbest decision ever,' while others simply wrote 'boo' or 'shame on the BBC' along with links to the story.


Some fans lamented the axing of The Fades when 'worse quality' programmes like Don't Tell The Bride were being recommissioned for more and more series by BBC3.

I cannot pretend to know or understand how the BBC works over there across the pond in the UK, but when a television series has good ratings, good critic reviews and THE FANS LOVE IT.... YOU DON'T CANCEL THE PROGRAM!!!

ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY AWARD

The Royal Television Society has announced its awards for their RTS Programme Awards 2011. 'The Fades' starring SWATH's own Johnny Harris is nominated for Drama Series.

The awards' ceremony will be held on Tuesday March 20th at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

SWATH's Johnny Harris has been immortalized on a GetGlue sticker as his character 'Neil' for this Saturday's episode of The Fades.  The Fades has reached the American shores which it has been airing for the last few weeks on BBC America. 

'Neil' is a flawed Angelic who sets out to save the world.  However, the Fades seem to be in the way.  Episode 5 will be shown this Saturday and it kind of makes us curious as to why 'Neil' is being signaled out.  UK friends, don't spoil it for us but we have a bad feeling that something is going to happen to Mr. Neil.  What's going to happen? We have to wait and see.

HARRIS PREMIERES TONIGHT IN 'THE FADES'

U.K. fans of the supernatural can finally see the BBC series 'The Fades' as it premieres tonight on BBC3 at 9pm.  SWATH's own dwarf, Johnny Harris, will star as "Neil" in this critically acclaimed fantasy horror series where they see dead people amongst all whole host of other things.

This series will eventually appear on BBC America. However, you can read a sneak peek into the first episode here. 

Digital Spy interviewed Harris while on set about his character:

"The This Is England star appears in The Fades as an Angelic, Neil, who becomes a kind of mentor for Paul."

Clearly fans are loving Johnny Harris and "The Fades".  A fan tweeted to "forget vampires", 'The Fades' will have people gripped.

Well, since Kristen Stewart [Snow White] will be playing a vampire in 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2', we won't forget about vamps too soon. However, Johnny Harris and 'The Fades' is clearly getting fans excited.

"'The Fades' is a story about a reluctant teenage hero, Paul, who is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that no one can explain. He also starts to see spirits of the dead, known as The Fades, all around him. When a bitter and vengeful Fade finds a way to be human again, the fate of humanity now rests in Paul's hands as he has to stop the dead from breaking back into the world and attacking the human race.

Harris plays 'Neil', a lone warrior against the forces of darkness, who becomes Paul's unlikely mentor."

HARRIS: BEGINS FILMING SWATH TOMORROW -  'FADES' SCREENING TONIGHT

 Award winning actor Johnny Harris tweeted that he will be on set for the first time tomorrow to begin filming SWATH.

Earlier tonight Harris attended the British Film Institute's ("BFI") screening of his new television series "The Fades" which included a Question and Answer session.

Harris tweeted that it was "A great audience and reaction to the show".  Harris was interviewed this past August by the BBC where he spoke about "The Fades":

Tell us about Neil?

Neil is an Angelic. And he's pretty much born into it. The Angelics have this ability to see these dead souls, the Fades, as they roam the Earth. He's pretty much a fundamentalist… it's his life. It's all he's got.
  
How would you describe the Fades?


The Fades essentially are the spirits of the dead and they roam the Earth. They're trapped here… and this has an effect on them as you can imagine. They're not happy. They live in a world they can't touch, they can't taste they can't feel. And so they evolve.



It seems a slight change of gear isn't it? From This is England '86 to The Fades. What brought you to The Fades?


My agent called and said 'there's a new project, it's called The Fades and it's by Jack Thorne' and so instantly my ears pricked up… it was everything that I imagined from Jack Thorne. It was out there you know. His imagination's limitless, and it was all there on the page. It was quite fantastic. So I was intrigued to see how I could try and bring it to life.


How is your character connected to Paul?


Paul realises he's got these powers, he can see the Fades, there's only a certain group of people that can do that. This young boy thinks he's mad at first and then Neil comes into his life and explains to him that he's not mad, he's got these special powers and what they're meant to be used for... the stakes are raised consistently... the Fades are evolving and growing and as far as Neil's concerned that needs to be controlled and that's where his relationship with the boy comes in. Paul is the chosen one.

I'm learning from them to be honest. I'm not just saying that to be polite. We've all got different journeys really. These guys are getting big parts at young ages and they're really mature as actors. Iain De Caestecker is something a bit special. One thing that I think will be key to this show is the casting of Iain. He's fantastic and they've got it just right.


I think and he's lovely to be around. It's the same with Jo Dempsey. Daniel Kaluuya is one of the most enigmatic young men I've ever met... I'm watching them and thinking: 'God, what was I doing at 22 or however old they are..?' I love hearing what they're about. They're teaching me new words everyday – 'Swag' apparently now means good. It was a bank robber's loot when I was young. So I'm feeling a bit old on this set..! They don't just turn up and say lines. They are very serious about their craft. It's a breath of fresh air and I think it's really exciting.

SWATH fans in the U.K., Johnny Harris who plays a dwarf in SWATH will be at the screening tonight of his television series, 'The Fades'.  There will be a question and answer session afterward.
